Some inspiration https://hagemannstudios.com/blog/2014/10/some-inspiration Been a bit ill for a few days so not allot of artwork to be completed.  I have been doing some reading in the required books for class

and came across a paragraph about the Clearview font.  It stated the font had it's own website so of course I had to go and check it out.  Worth a look for any type fiends out there.

Here's also a funny video on the Arial-Helvetica standoff

Ready for First Crit.. https://hagemannstudios.com/blog/2014/10/ready-for-first-crit Wrapped up ideas for the 4 Lyceum posters.   Went to the music department and took photos of some band instruments.  The French horn was a very popular instrument for obvious reasons.   Since the Christmas season is just around the corner I went for a green and red and white color scheme.  The Letters LYCEUM I made with musical notes.  They are coming out of the horn as if the music is flowing out.

More Lyceum poster inspiration https://hagemannstudios.com/blog/2014/9/more-lyceum-poster-inspiration

Working on my "One Flew over the Cockoo's Nest" poster and needed some inspiration for colors.  Used the kuler app on these two images of insane asylums to get some color schemes.  Also used a photo I took at the Northern State Hospital  "in the silence they wait"  for the texture for the poster.     This poster demonstrates "Fragmentation".   I cut up the text "LICEO" (this is also in Italian) and moved the letters a bit to give it a fractured look.  Also I used some geometric shapes to also break up the background.  The geometric shapes when stand alone are in the shape of a flying bird.  It's not completed yet but this is where it stands of tonight.

Poster inspiration https://hagemannstudios.com/blog/2014/9/poster-inspiration  This is an idea for my visual arts poster.   I got the idea from the late great Paul Rand and his photogram he did for his  "Thoughts on Design" book and a design I saw in Computer Arts magazine.    I made this colorgram in Color, Materials, and Methods course I took a few semesters back.  I always liked it and think I may be able to pull something off for this particular poster.

Lyceum Posters- The Beginning https://hagemannstudios.com/blog/2014/9/ly Just beginning on a poster series for the Lyceum project.   Project entails making a fold up mailer for Pensacola States Lyceum series.  There will be four poster in all.  Music, Dance, Visual Arts, Theater.  Each one has to be in a different language.  English, Spanish, Italian and French.  They also have to display different type treatments.  Separation, Fusion, Inversion, Fraction.   I've come up with several ideas.  Below is just one of them.    I also found a tutorial in Communication Arts Magazine on how to lay out grids.  It was confusing at first as it in metrics but I think I figured it out.    Google translator was also a savior in translating the words.   The images on the back of the poster were provided by the school for our layouts.

Icons, symbols, pictogram project begining stages https://hagemannstudios.com/blog/2014/9/icons-symbols-pictogram-project-begining-stages Here are some sketches I've done leading up to our next project in Graphic Design.   I'm not really sure what the end product is supposed to be or any of the parameters but here are some ideas I've put down on paper.   My idea is for an app for a local burger place in town called "The Tin Cow".  Their menu is fairly simple.  You pick several items with a grease pencil and mark your menu and turn it into the waitress.   Just take a look around you when you go out to dinner again.  You cannot look around without seeing most everyone on their cell phones.  I thought, since this trend has no sign of going away anytime soon why not capitailize on it with an App for ordering your burger?    It cuts down on wait staff as well as speeds up the process for you to order your burger.      Below are some of my ideas on paper.

Invitation Update - https://hagemannstudios.com/blog/2014/8/invitation-update This weekend I worked on many different items related to the typography project.   1) Poster.  2/3) Postcard/Map.  4) Shopping bag 5) Wine 101 handout.  6) Wine Pairings handout.    The Painting on the poster took several days and countless hours.  I think before I attack such a thing again I get my photoshop painting skills a bit more in tune.

Still a work in progress but it's finally getting there.  Going to do a tutorial on how to draw grapes and see if I can add some in how I envisioned this to be in the first place.   I'm not a fan of the font for the 2015.  I'd like something more script like but I don't have anything on my laptop that works.   I'll keep looking.

Above is the front and back of a 11x6 mailing postcard.   I had to put a screen behind the title and a drop shadow behind "wine festival" as the words and dates were getting lost in the trees.

Above is a shopping bag design.  8.25"w x 10.5"h x 4.375"d.   The 1" black strip with the webpage will fold inward to read right side up in the inside of the bag.  I'm still thinking of doing a design for the lanyard/rope.  Possibly something black with white writing.

For the WINE TASTING 101 placard I used a close up of the water refection from my original drawing of the Baytowne Wharf.

For the background for the WINE PAIRINGS I chose to use more the of Baytowne Wharf image which had a lighter area to see if the text would be more visible.

Above are some type studies and a little type design of my own.  The poster is going to have a painting of Baytown Wharf (the black white photo on top)  created in photoshop.  It will be the background since that is where the festival is held.   As for the type I've tried to design some of my own lettering using the wine bottle, a glass, and a corkscrew as inspiration.

TypographyII Inviations https://hagemannstudios.com/blog/2014/8/typographyii-inviations I am currently working on a project for my TypographyII class at Pensacola State College.   We are designing invitations.  We are required to make 10 items for our project that relate to our invitation.  I decided to do my invite for the SanDestin Wine Festival that they have every year in Destin Florida at the Baytown Wharf.   My illustrator skills need some polishing so I decided to start off with something that would get the cobwebs dusted off.  One of my 10 items is a Tyvek Bracelet they use at such festivals to indicate over 21.   Since the Baytown Wharf has an old fashion carrousel I decided to design a few of the horses from the carrousel and put them on the bracelet since the bracelet goes in a circle.    It may be a little too detailed for such an item and I probably should of just gone with a silhouette  but like I said early, I need to brush the cobwebs off with illustrator.   More to come....A festival poster painted in photoshop.

Stamp Design https://hagemannstudios.com/blog/2014/7/stamp-design This set of stamps was designed in my very first Graphic Design class.  I was just learning how to use illustrator.  It was not easy but I was very determined to figure out how to use the program.  I used some photographs I had taken in the past as inspiration for the drawings.  These are all fields in the Skagit Valley area of Washington State.  Every spring it comes alive with Tulips, daffodils, and Irises and a hoard of tourists from around the globe.

Update of About me https://hagemannstudios.com/blog/2014/6/update-of-about-me Selfie Worked on a self portrait this weekend.  I set the studio up in the minimal space I have.   Using a small white paper backdrop, two alien bee 800's for the back drop, and one alien bee 800 and a beauty dish for the main light.  Turns out it's all I needed for a simple headshot.  Decided to go with the Peter Hurley style of High Key background, simple and upclose approach.  Took a few tries to get the signature "squinching" look down since I had to keep getting up and hitting the shutter button.  Maybe next time I'll break out the remote shutter release.   Overall it turned out like I envisioned it to be and I actually like it.   Apparently so do allot of others.  I've posted it to facebook and recieved almost 100 likes.

Poster Design https://hagemannstudios.com/blog/2014/6/poster-design On 28 July 2010, through Resolution 64/292, the United Nations General Assembly explicitly recognized the human right to water and sanitation and acknowledged that clean drinking water and sanitation are essential to the realization of all human rights.

Here are two posters I recently designed for a "Human Rights and Human Wrongs" assignment in Graphic Design II.    The theme I chose was  “The right to clean drinking water”.   For the first poster I filled two water bottles with rainwater from the drainage on my street.   I laid the bottles out and photographed them to symbolize the equality sign.  Simplicity was the goal.

The second poster had to be black and white only.  I shot some macros of my kitchen faucet for the background.   The used of type was the main concentration for this piece.

Just for fun I’ve also included one poster I designed just after the recent flooding in Pensacola this spring.     “Rain-a-geddon”.

This past Feburary a slew of talented photographers and graphic designers from Pensacola State College raked in almost all of the ADDY awards at the Pensacola AAF ADDY awards Gala.   Several Gold and Silvers were presented.  Some even went on to districts and some to Nationals.   These two images of mine won Silvers at the Gala that evening.

Logo Design https://hagemannstudios.com/blog/2014/6/logo-design Logo Design Logo Design

Here are some logos I worked on the past week for Portfolio class.  The first set I made for the Emerald Coast Mustang Association.  The Mustangs are a group of officers that have moved up from the Enlisted ranks to Officer status.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mustang_(military_officer)

One logo has an Emerald to emphasize they are from the "Emerald" Coast.  The other a wave that is green to symbolize again the Emerald Coast.

My personal logo is a film canister turning into digital to signify I can do either or.  I started out in film but now shoot mostly digital primarily for eas e of use, hazmat/equipment requirements, and of course the all mighty $$$$.

The last logos are for a friends new Thai Resturant in Navarre, FL.   I chose to keep it simple.  Yellow noodles with complimentary colors in the bowl to give it a friendly crisp feeling.   The colors for the Thai Budda on the Lotus leave match the colors of the veggie spring rolls.    I also decided to throw in an Elephant Logo as that is one of my memories of my one and only visit to Thailand.
